This place isn’t a movie set, it's not a haunted house in an old grocery store—it's quarried sandstone cut by convicts, scarred by fires, and patched back together for another century of stories. When you feel the chill on your neck, it’s not just our fog machines. In 1862 the Nevada Territorial Legislature turned the Warm Springs Hotel into the state’s first penitentiary. Prisoners quarried the on‑site sandstone that later built the State Capitol, then rebuilt the cellblocks—twice—after fires in 1867 and 1870. Over the next 150 years the walls absorbed jailbreaks, riots, a full‑blown inmate casino, and America’s first gas‑chamber execution, forging the haunted legend you’re about to walk through.
Dark Prison is honored to collaborate with the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society to make it possible to share scary fun and real history with the community and beyond. 15 Nights. Tickets are expected to sell out.

After the success of the sold-out Halfway to Halloween event in May, Dark Corner Creative and the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society (NSPPS) are teaming up once again to bring a full season of scares back to the historic prison. This time some of the fan-favorite characters from Dark Corner’s earlier attractions are joining the inmates inside Dark Prison. It’s a new experience designed to excite Dark Corner fans and entertain curious newcomers. "The response to our spring event was incredible, and we’re excited to build on that momentum," said Dustin Ring, CFO and CTO of Dark Corner Creative. "Working with NSPPS allows us to create something truly unique in a venue unlike any other."
The 2025 season is expected to create between 60–100 jobs, many of which are entry-level and ideal for students, creatives, part-time workers, or anyone looking for a fun and unique side hustle this fall. Many returning staff from Dark Prison’s earlier days in downtown Reno are expected to rejoin the crew. Now based in Carson City, the attraction is able to draw talent from an even wider area, offering roles to performers and workers beyond the city center.
