Want to join but don't feel like acting? Great! We need support staff to make this whole thing operational. You can fill out both the actor and support positions and if hired we will place you where you best fit.

Mandatory auditions/interviews are happening Sunday, April 26th at the Nevada State Prison.
Even if you’ve worked with us before, we need you there so we can place you in the right role for this season.

When:
Support Staff: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (Sit-down interviews)
Actors: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Improv games & characters)

Mandatory Waiver:
The Historical Preservation Society requires a signed waiver for everyone entering the property. We will be checking that everyone has signed one when they arrive, so please click the link below to submit yours online before you get to the prison:

What to bring/wear:
Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes.
No costumes or makeup.
Bring water and a good attitude. If you cannot make your time slot, email Guinivere (guin@darkprison.com) ASAP so we can find a compromise.

ACTORS

Perform as monsters to entertain and scare visitors.

In-House Actor

The bread and butter of the haunted house. The creatures looming in the dark waiting for the right moment to jump out and scare guests who have entered the haunted house. Must be comfortable with flashing lights, harsh smells, darkness, and fog.

Line Actor

The entertainment outside. Keep guests happy and give that "Disneyland Experience". Must be comfortable interacting with strangers in character while staying safe. Experience in improv is recommended.

Talkative Character

May be placed anywhere. For actors who feel more comfortable when they have lines to recite or when they can interact with guests.

Silent and Scary

May be placed anywhere. For actors who feel more comfortable not speaking, but staying silent to get the most effective scare.

Icon Character

For the strongest actors. Icons are notable and memorable characters in Dark Prison Haunt that have a name used in marketing or in the overall storyline. Must be able to recite specific lines, learn the lore and stick to the character's pre-designed personality and traits.

Chainsaw

Some of the scariest monsters whose scares focus on the use of a chainsaw prop. Must be able to carry up to 10lbs for 4+ hours.

Requirements: Wear costume with special FX makeup. No experience necessary. Experience in acting or improv classes is a plus.

SUPPORT STAFF

Keep the operation running and the guests happy.

Bartender (21+)

Must have an active Nevada Alcohol Awareness Card. Serve our pre-packaged canned beverages at the Shiv Saloon bar or the VIP bar, verify IDs, keep the station spotless, restock inventory, and close out nightly cash/credit sales while maintaining a fun but responsible atmosphere.

Usher / Crowd Control

Greet guests, answer quick questions, enforce rules, pace groups at entry points, keep pedestrian traffic flowing.

Parking-Lot Attendant

Flag cars, guide them into marked spaces, guard fire lanes, direct guests to the box office, keep perimeter lighting on, and report any suspicious activity or vehicle issues.

Waiver Checker (bring your own laptop)

Set up the digital-waiver station, verify each guest's e-signature, issue wristbands or stamps, troubleshoot wi-fi hiccups, and sync completed forms to our cloud database in real time.

Ticket Scanner

Scans guest tickets and issues wristbands or stamps, available to answer guest questions, troubleshoot ticket scanning roadblocks.

Merch Sales Cashier

Operate the sales counter for merch sales, assist customers in finding products, upsell items, encourage people to preserve their memories through a Dark Prison Haunt or Nevada State Prison merchandise item(s).

Midway Game Attendant

Run the carnival-style games outside the haunt, explain rules, take payments, award prizes, reset props, and keep the midway energy high. Possibly be a costumed character.

Tour Guide

Lead VIP or behind-the-scenes tours, deliver a short scripted lore segment, control group pacing, answer questions, and hand guests off smoothly to the attraction entry team.

Photo-Op Attendant

Pose guests with themed props, encourage guests to come take free photos, and manage the photo queue to keep wait times low.

Breakdown Team

Remove tables, chairs, stanchions, fences, games and trashcans. Take out trash to dumpster. Pick up trash and clean up common areas. Usually between 1am - 3am.

Setup Team

Place tables & chairs, move stanchions or fences, assemble midway games, place trashcans, etc. Usually between 4pm - 7pm.

Requirements: Positive attitude, commitment to exceptional customer service, team shirt or possible costume.

MAKEUP / COSTUME

Makeup Artist

People-oriented, problem-solving, fast-working, sewing, and fabricating skills, ability to lift 30 lbs, sanitation knowledge, initiative, and independence. Experience in makeup or costuming is a plus; portfolios welcome. Dress, apply makeup and aid a cast of 30-40 performers. Comfortable with close contact and able to keep a clean workspace.

Casting Call / Auditions FAQ

What is the pay rate?+

Positions and pay rates are based on experience and availability ranging from $12-$15 / hour. Volunteer positions are available if paid positions get filled.

What do I need to bring to auditions?+

Please bring your drivers license or state ID. A water bottle is recommended.

What do I need to wear?+

Please wear comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes that you can easily move in.

What will I need to do?+

If applying for an actor position: Actors will be called in to perform acting exercises and move around. Then actors may be brought in individually or in small groups to show us your best scare. You will be asked to fill out an application and calendar of availability if you haven't done so already online. You will also have your picture taken so we can attach it to your application. If applying for a support position: You will be interviewed based on the specific position you are applying for.

Do I need to be experienced?+

Experience is helpful but not required. For actors, we ask you to play some improv games and do some silly movements. For support staff we are looking more for dependable and positive people. A good attitude and willingness to try things is what is important.

How old do I need to be?+

You must be at least 18 to apply. Positions, pay rate, and internships will be determined at auditions. Anyone younger than 18 are accepted on a strict case by case basis.

What is the time commitment if I am hired?+

Call time can be anywhere between 3pm - 6pm every day we are open. That call time changes based on your position inside or outside of the haunted house. You will learn of your specific call time at Monster Bootcamp, but if you have restrictions we may be able to accommodate. When you share with us your availability you are expected to work the days you selected. There will be scheduled training and safety days required before opening night.

Do I need to attend the training days and acting classes?+

Yes. Our training days (Monster Bootcamp) and rehearsal days prepare you to be ready for opening day. We also take safety seriously. Training days cover all the information you need to keep yourself, your fellow monsters and the audience safe.

How do I travel to Dark Prison Haunted House?+

You are expected to find your own travel accommodations to arrive at your call time to Dark Prison Haunt. We highly encourage fellow monsters to carpool together if possible.
